When it's very cold (sub-zero temps) they need more than that.
We can also get round bales which are about 600 pounds but are harder (for me) to use and store. I wouldn't care much for 100 pound bales of hay because I have to be able to lift and stack them.Cynthia Eliasonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35437039.post-57591980515923054952012-07-26T22:50:39.780-04:002012-07-26T22:50:39.780-04:00Anon, small square bales, which are what is typica...Anon, small square bales, which are what is typically used in the east for horses, weigh about 40 pounds.

Either that or I am a feckin' superwoman, because I routinely carry one in each hand.Heather Houlahanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13891198124130533198noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35437039.post-45576768925399225252012-07-26T19:44:28.091-04:002012-07-26T19:44:28.091-04:00I just read excerpts of that NY Cruelty Investigat...I just read excerpts of that NY Cruelty Investigation manual. Generally a bale of hay is 100-125 pounds depending on the type of hay. There is NO WAY a 1000 horse eats 50 pounds of hay a day.
WHEN IS OBESITY GOING TO BE SEEN AS ABUSIVE?!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35437039.post-6139411563053432412012-07-24T21:17:30.746-04:002012-07-24T21:17:30.746-04:00I think we can expect to see more of this. My recent veterinarian sold out to an AR shill who couldn't tell the difference between a normal weight dog and a 'thin and underfed' dog, who has participated in local seizures. This seems to me to be a clear conflict of interest.

I found another (older, more experienced) vet, who does recognize a normal, healthy weight dog when she sees one, but the new crop of vets gets more AR oriented every year.

We need to confront the AVMA and our state veterinary associations about this.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35437039.post-49546156335472432052012-07-24T19:57:04.475-04:002012-07-24T19:57:04.475-04:00http://www.nyshumane.org/manual/manualHTML/toc_man...http://www.nyshumane.org/manual/manualHTML/toc_manual.htmAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
